Fraud Warning - Spain

We want members to be aware of a sudden increase in debit card fraud coming out of Spain.

Many financial institutions have seen significant debit card fraud originating from Spain for some time. However, over the last several weeks we've noticed a increase in fraudulent activity coming from this country. A significant portion of all debit card activity occuring in Spain during the last month has been reported as fraudulent.  

This increase in fraud is a worldwide problem that does not appear to target any individual financial institution.

Starting June 2, we have limited all debit card transactions originating from Spain to PIN based activity only. If you are travelling to Spain, please be aware that you will need your PIN to conduct debit card transactions, and that your transactions will have a $5,000 daily limit.

Please note that we take this step for your own safety. Ensuring the security of your financial accounts is our top priority at Harborstone. With the levels of fraud we've noted, we do not feel that we can permit non-PIN based transactions in Spain while still providing the level of protection that our members expect.
