Security Alert - Making Your Stronger Password

To help protect your accounts, we're asking Harborstone members who use online banking to update their passwords to be stronger, better, and more secure.

Why are we making this change?

As a member-owned credit union, our first priority is the safety and secure of your accounts. We want to make sure that your money is taken care of - and that includes following the best practices and standards of the information security industry.

To put it simply, the tools and talents available to criminals seeking to access your financial data continue to evolve. We want to make sure that we stay one step ahead of them. An important part of this update is asking our members to provide stronger passwords.

A strong password is the key component to your financial security. Our systems are incredibly secure against outside attack. But a weak password can potentially compromise that.

What are the new requirements?

We're asking you to create a longer password. Also, we're requesting that you add in special characters, capital letters, and numbers, to make it even more secure.

By adding in numbers, capital letters, length requirements, and certain special characters, we can make your password dramatically more secure. We're confident that, together with our commitment to our secure systems, the password requirement will continue to keep your accounts safe.

What do I need to do?

It's simple. Just follow the prompts in Online Banking to change your password to meet the new guidelines we've established for password security. You're free to update your password whenever you'd like to help keep it current and secure. We also may prompt you to update your password at certain intervals.

It's important to remember to keep your password secure. We'll bring you more tips over the next few weeks, but for now, keep a few simple things in mind:

  • Never share your password with anyone
  • Never write your password down. If you must, keep it in a secure place, totally isolated from your computer - it's critically important that anyone with physical access to your computer does NOT have access to your password.
  • Never share your password with anyone claiming to be from Harborstone. We have systems in place to assist you if you have trouble with online banking or your accounts. We'll NEVER solicit you for your password. That includes over the phone, by mail, on a website, or through email.
