Junior Achievement of Washington

Junior Achievement of Washington and Harborstone Credit Union joined together with a common mission of financial empowerment for today’s youth. We believe in educating youth on the importance of establishing financially healthy habits, and starting early. This joint passion led Harborstone to participate in JA Finance Park® with an interactive hands-on learning experience to encourage students to “Pay Yourself First.” This message shifts our traditional thinking to re-focus on the importance of establishing savings to have money set aside to support long-term life goals, emergency savings, and retirement. During this one-day student simulation at JA Finance Park, students who can tell a staff member how they pay themselves first will receive a Harborstone lanyard along with a “Very Important Payment” badge. If the student brings this badge into a branch, they can get a jump start on savings by opening a minor savings account. Harborstone will also contribute up to $100 if the student demonstrates financially healthy habits and contributes at least $10 each consecutive month for 12 months.

In addition to our JA Finance Park participation, our staff members also have the opportunity to volunteer in the classroom to provide additional financial education, all thanks to our valuable JA partnership.

Thank you, JA of Washington, for allowing us to be your trusted partner in this valuable mission!
