Checking Accounts

Share accounts at Harborstone Credit Union are insured up to $250,000 by the National Credit Union Administration (NCUA), a federal agency backed by the full faith and credit of the U.S. government.

A member of a federally insured credit union has never lost one penny of insured savings.

You will be issued a debit card automatically when you open a checking account.

If you already have a checking account but did not choose to receive a debit card previously, contact us to order it.

You can use your Harborstone credit or debit card internationally. However, please let us know that you will be traveling out of the country before you leave so that we do not flag your international charges as possible fraud and freeze your account. Harborstone may also charge an international transaction fee when you use your debit card at a merchant outside of the U.S. Visit harborstone.com/rates for current rates and fees.

There are currency-conversion fees when you use your debit card in a foreign country. If you are using an international ATM, its owner has the right to charge additional fees.

You may be able to avoid those fees by using ATMs that are part of the CO-OP ATM Network or the Armed Forces Financial Network, which offers an overseas ATM network for the U.S. military, defense, and civilian communities, with access to funds through ATMs located at or near U.S. military bases worldwide.

Our Teen Checking Account is designed for teens age 13 to 17 to teach responsibility and financial awareness while fostering the value of a community credit union.

It includes up to 10 free withdrawals at any out-of-network ATM and only $1 per withdrawal after that.

To qualify, the account holder must:

• Be between the ages of 13 and 17.
• Have a member over age of 18 as a joint account holder.
• Have a valid government-issued identification.
• Open a regular savings or minor savings account first.
